ABSTRACT

Hybanthus enneaspermus (L.) F. Muell.(Violaceae) is one of the important plant used in the treatment of anemia and has no toxicity as per earlier reports of fertility. Plant is used in the treatment of different kinds of diseases such as acute renal injury, diabetic complications, analgesic and anti-allergic, anti-proliferative and antioxidant etc.Plant extract have potential to control the microbial activity due to presence of different kinds of secondary metabolites like alkaloids, steroids, flavonoid, phenols, tannins, terpenoids and phytosterol and has immense importance in traditional system of medicine as well as pharmacological industries. In present study root, stem and leaves extract of Hybanthus enneaspermus were used to check antimicrobial properties such as antibacterial and antifungal activity on different human pathogenic microorganism. During this study five different human pathogenic bacteria viz., Salmonella typhi, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Shigella flexneri, E. coli and Staphylococcus aureus were used. To check the antifungal properties of Hybanthus enneaspermus extract pathogenic fungi such as A. flavus, A. niger, P. chrysogenum, F. soloni and C. albicans were used.
