Arthashasthra and its relevance to present day Police Administration

ABSTRACT

Kautilya’s ‘Arthashastra’ is essentially a book of state art craft. Arthashastra composed of fifteen books. Out of which, the first five deals with internal administration, the subsequent eight deals with state relations with neighbouring states and other two are diverse in character. Arthashastra by Kautilya highlight upon the wealth of the state and its optimum utilization. This paper is an attempt to relate his core values on which he based methods of raising wealth and the criterion for its safeguard and security administration and its application in modern days.. Arthashasra is serves as a book setting basic guidelines for state Administration (with a special reference to police administration). An attempt is made here to trace the security administration as outline by kautilya and its impact and relevance to present day police administration.
