ABSTRACT

Literature as a mode of expression is used to portray the sensitivity of being under the gaze of white masters. Many people used literature as a tool to illustrate their unique and erratic experience of being colonised. Emergence of women writers opened up a new world of opportunity to posit the double colonised situation that prevailed in the society. Women’s writing may refer to the general study of women writers or women’s literature as a genre in general or particular language. Chitra Mudgal is prolific writer who has contributed distinguished works in Hindi Literature. His popular novel ‘Ek Sameen Apni’ was published in the year 1990. It highlights the suppression, oppression, injustice, cruelty and inequality imposed upon women from the advertising companies and their authorities. The novel won the ‘Phanishwar Nath Renu Prize’. For her contribution in literature and novel ‘Awam’, Chitra Mudgal was awarded the ‘Wyas Samman’ in 2000.
