ABSTRACT
With the increase of technology modern man has enmeshed himself into it and had become very much symbolic of its simulative and mechanized nature, the resultant was ruptured and fragmented identity disorder. It is more so modern man’s pragmatic investment in the objects that seem to have open ended contours dominated by the ideals of automatism and in a process has universalized itself as a functional being deprived of its symbolic dimension. However within the textual typology modern man has afforded many possible functions but has ended up mental and linguistic construct with denotations of dispersion and plurality and has become a multiple story of ‘himself’. This paper aims to reveal the paradoxical character of Domostroy, a sort of ‘empty canvass†within postmodern assumptions and qualifications. Therefore, very much title of the novel Pinball qualifies the weight of ambivalence metaphoric of bouncing and reversing identities of characters Moreover the title ‘Pinball’ is a nice metaphor for the events in the lives of the characters in the novel bouncing and reversing identities symbolic of a ball in a machine.
