A Literature Review of 101 Articles to Explore the Importance of Destination Image in Tourism

ABSTRACT

Destination image has become one of the most important research topics in tourism literature for the past few decades. A review of 101 destination image articles published in ‘Annals of tourism research’, ‘International journal of contemporary hospitality management’, ‘International journal of hospitality management’, ‘journal of hospitality and tourism research’, ‘journal of travel research’, and ‘Tourism management’, during 2010-2019 were considered to provide researchers a better understanding of focus, method and context of previous studies. This article identified specific travel context used in literature of destination image articles, data analysis techniques and theories used to operationalize the constructs. Moreover, this article also identified different constructs used in literature other than destination image.
