ABSTRACT
Turmeric is an ancient Indian medicinal plant and also called as ‘Indian Saffron’ is an important commercial spice crop grown in India. It occupies important place in Indian religious ceremony. Turmeric has been used in Chinese traditional and Indian Ayurvedic medicine. The underground rhizomes of turmeric is dried and used as spice in variety of diet. The turmeric powder is filled in capsules and turmeric liquid extract is used as medicine to cure various diseases. Therefore, a study was conducted in five selected villages in Erumapatty and also in Namagiripettai blocks in Namakkal district. The sample size comprised of 120 turmeric growers. The respondents were personally interviewed through well structured and pre-tested interview in a schedule manner. Arithmetic mean, percentage analysis, cumulative frequency, zero order correlation and multiple regressions were used to analyze the collected data. As regards to training needs, six variables viz., educational status, farming experience, extension agency contact, trainings undergone, innovativeness, and scientific orientation were found to have positive and significant relationship with the training needs. The result of multiple regression showed that 52.60 per cent of variation in the adoption level was explained by the sixteen independent variables selected for the study and the results fit in the regression equation.
