Health, Turmoil and Women: Analysis on The Women Health Issues in The Border Villages of Jammu and Kashmir

ABSTRACT

Background: Jammu and Kashmir has been territory fraught with unrest since India and Pakistan got their Independence. The territory has seen border violence, migration and instability from partition time to till. The cross border firing however negative impact on border villages and seriously disrupts daily life. Dread, a dangerous atmosphere, mobility restrictions and chronic uncertain volatile situations are additional stressors that come with living close to a battle zone. The position of women still appeal, they encounter prejudice everywhere and danger along borders. Women in these regions are constrained in their social interactions and mobility due to insurgency which has led many individuals to travel to other locations of India in search of peace, employment and safe places. Objective: Analyzing women experiences, the difficulties they face, and how political unrest affects their health are the study primary objectives. Method: Structured Interview schedule prepared and conducted with 10 poor Pregnant scheduled tribes (ST) between the criteria 18 to 35 that is early adolescent age of women living in the border villages of Jammu and Kashmir who are experiencing various challenges due to turmoil and its impact on their social life in their daily routine. Primary data have been collected from the research field by making use of focused group discussions, and personal observation. Secondary literature related to the effects of political turmoil and its impact on the socio-economic life of people has also been collected. This work is based on primary as well as secondary sources to address the socio-economic conditions of the border areas of people in Jammu and Kashmir Findings: The research findings demonstrate the border villages along Line out of control are facing socio-economic challenges along with the insurgency conflict. To live without fear is almost a hope that instantly hampers the social development. The ongoing situation includes poverty, no infrastructure developed, poor/no quality of education, inadequate opportunities for the children hindered women’s health and security, migration, and other social issues.
