ABSTRACT
Self-Concept is one’s perception about one’s qualities and attributes. Awareness of self can be referred to an individual’s self-concept. Teachers’ own self-concept can affect their students’ self-concept. Present study was conducted to explore and compare the Women teachers working at Secondary and Higher Secondary level of education and their Self-concept.
Self-concept in teaching, as a powerful determinant of teacher behavior, is developed by the way in which teacher experiences and interprets things that happen. The quest for understanding oneself plays a vital role in orienting the women teacher to the world around her and enabling her to behave with confidence so that they can maximize their pleasure and minimize their pain in their professional area.
A research work was conducted on Women teachers working at Secondary and Higher Secondary level of education and their Self-concept of education in Siliguri sub-division, West Bengal with the objectives like, To find out the significant difference in perception of self of high qualified and less qualified women teachers. To find out the significant difference in self-concept of women teachers at secondary and higher secondary level in relation to their marital status.. The investigation was done with a sample of 120 women teachers of differences in their level of qualification, i.e high qualified and less qualified and marital status i.e. married and unmarried. For the study a standardized tool was used and analysis was made with the help of statistics. The findings reveal differences in the self-concept of women teachers with regard to different components of self-concept and intervention.
