Communication Skills of English Instructors in Public and Private Schools in the Tertiary Level in San Carlos City

ABSTRACT

The researcher used the descriptive-comparative research design in finding out the communication skills of the English Instructors in public and private schools at the tertiary level in San Carlos City. The Public colleges and State universities English teachers and the private colleges and state universities English teachers were the respondents. Purposive sampling and total enumeration were used in selecting the respondents. The researcher used the inventory as the main instrument of the Study. Frequency counts and percentage, average weighted mean, t-test. Chi-Square and Pearson r were used as the tools for data analysis. Based on the findings, the following were the drawn conclusions: The English instructors are relatively young, female-dominated who upgraded their advanced studies by having M.A. units. The English instructors are equipped with communication skills in using English as a medium of instruction along Reading, Writing, Speaking, and Listening. Speaking Skills are affected by the highest educational attainment of the teachers, the higher the educational attainment, the higher the level of communication skills. The English Instructors are good at using English as the medium of instruction. Based on the drawn conclusions, the following are hereby recommended: The English instructors should continue their graduate studies. A follow-up study is recommended.
