ABSTRACT
The international community, human rights organisations, and various stakeholders closely monitored the situation, expressing apprehensions and calling for transparency, accountability, and the safeguarding of the rights of the people in Jammu and Kashmir. The study explores the impact of the abrogation of Article 370 on civil and political rights, shedding light on political changes, communication shutdowns, detentions, and broader security measures affecting the region. The analysis highlights the complexities of addressing human rights abuses in the context of geopolitical considerations and diplomatic relations, highlighting the need for a concerted effort to address the human rights crisis in the region, emphasising the urgency of upholding fundamental rights and ensuring the well-being of the affected population. The engagement of non-governmental organisations (NGOs), both local and international, will play a pivotal role in monitoring and advocating for accountability and facilitating dialogue. The collaboration between these entities and governmental institutions will be essential to build a framework that upholds human rights standards, promotes justice, and contributes to lasting stability.
