ABSTRACT
It is true that no picture on earth is as beautiful as smiling child with its happy face. But unfortunately we don’t have faces of all the children as smiling around us. Since their well-being is one of the important segment on which the future of the country depends, it becomes the duty of the policy makers and the citizens to ensure that they are taken care of properly. This becomes more relevant considering the fact that a huge number of children are being abandoned and victimized. In such circumstances, giving a chance for a second life through adoption is one of the apt solutions to resolve the issues of these children. As per the Juvenile Justice Amendment Act 2006, the State took the responsibility to look after the children. Still, more is to be done and it is also the mandate of the Constitution of India. This paper analyses the stages of history of adoption, its development to the modern adoption laws, the present legal framework, its lacunae and the need for a uniform secular law for adoption.
