ABSTRACT

The Civil Disobedience Movement of the 1930s was a major political upheaval on the Indian subcontinent. It was linked, however indirectly, to every group that mattered in India. Our study is a humble attempt to provide light on the nature of the movement, the response of the British Raj, and Gandhis part in it. It also tries to address the issue, "What role did Gandhi and Congress play in starting and making it a successful movement?" by offering explanations on that front. When this Movement began, how did the British Raj respond? There are four main parts to this article. The books first part focuses on the political climate of India under the Indian National Congress and the British Raj in the 1920s and 1930s. The second section explains Gandhi status and role in the movement, while the third discusses the core ideas behind the movement itself. Last but not least, we will discuss how people have reacted to the Movement and how its altered the political landscape of the Subcontinent. The descriptive-analytical methodology was employed in this study data collecting and analysis.
