ABSTRACT

Historically, India was a patriarchal society, women were given a secondary position in the society and thought of as less then. Compared to the past, women now have more freedom and rights but is the difference narrowed down totally? A theme like women empowerment is given utmost importance in this contemporary society which indicates we are moving in the right direction. This particular review paper revisits women empowerment in India and adds specificity to the Indian gender mainstreaming techniques, despite the best efforts of previous movements. According to the media and recent reports in India, women are still facing major sexual assaults. This indicates that women are still forced to submit to such animalistic behaviour.
